SCIENCE

Greenhouse in a Bag
What you will need:
Small plastic zip bags
3 cotton balls
2-3 large bean seeds

    Procedure:
  1. Place wet cotton balls in bag with seeds placed against them.
  2. Seal the bag and tape to window where it will receive plenty of sunlight. It should sprout in 3-5 days.
  3. After it sprouts about 1 inch, transplant in pot with soil.
This was taken from the Ultimate Book of Kid Concoctions.

Expansion:
Use different seeds and chart on paper how long it takes different seeds to grow. Great way to infuse Math concepts!

    Eggshell Tall Grass:
  1. Remove the top one-fourth of an eggshell.
  2. Rinse out.
  3. Have children draw a funny face.
  4. Have children fill the shell with soil and a few grass seeds.
  5. Keep watered and watch them grow.
  6. Have children watch how tall the seeds get. What do they do at home when the grass grows too tall? Explain in the rainforest that the grass does not get cut and gets very tall which is a habitat for some animals. Can they guess which ones?
Adaptation: use Sage Herb Seeds. Great flower, can be used in cooking and smells wonderful. Can also be placed in a pot to take home.
    Counting the Rain Drops:
  1. The Amazon gets 9 FEET of RAIN every year.
  2. Have the class measure how long is 9 feet.
  3. Have children measure daily amounts of rain.
  4. Have children compare to Rainforest.
