This month we are going to investigate the Rainforest. You can help your child discover about the importance of our environment by doing some fun, simple activities at home.

  1. Measure the grass at home with a yard stick after it is cut with your child and mark with a dark marker. Then measure when you need to cut again. Compare how much the grass has grown. If you really want to go wild, keep a chart on the refrigerature and have your child fill in how much the grass during the summer.
  2. Have lots of discussions about the weather. Is it raining? Measure the rain and chart on a big calendar at home.
  3. If you take a summer trip at the zoo, discover what animals might be in the rainforest.
  4. Plant a simple flower garden and have your child help be the botomist by taking care of it. Simple chores such as watering the flowers weeding, and even cutting a beautiful bouquet can be lots of fun when done together.
  5. Let children make mud cakes in the back yard. It always is fun to get good and dirty, then get under the sprinkler to get clean.
  6. Make some chocolate treats.
  7. Make some of the rainforest art activities during a rainforest summer party with a few of your child's friends (i.e stocking snake, rainstick, java dough, or mystic tour club house).
