Songs and stories are a great fun way for children to learn new concepts and to retain new vocabulary (especially children with language delay problems). Practice chants during any transition time during the children's day (getting in line to go outside or inside, coming to large group time, etc.). It is also a good idea to send copies home to families so children can chant anywhere-any time (in the bathtub, getting dressed, in the car, etc.). Children love chants with a motor component, such as Going on a Bear Hunt. Such chants help children with long-term memory difficulties remember words and also support children who need physical activity to keep them engaged in the activity. So have some fun, sing some songs, recite some chants, and read some silly camping stories.
