EXPLORING AND OBSERVING THE GREAT OUTDOORS

Throughout the theme make sure children have many opportunities to examine and pay attention to the outside environment. Here are just a few ideas:

  1. Place sunflower seeds outside to attract birds and squirrels.
  2. Be on the look out for ants and observe their behavior when crumbs are left outside.
  3. Make an ant farm in the classroom and give jobs to students to record and inform class of ant activity during circle time.
  4. Look for butterflies, bugs and other insects.
  5. If possible take a trip to a park and have children make different sightings (squirrels, rabbits, ducks, swans, geese). Compare to their playground campsite.
